The very first camp started by Paul Newman in 1988, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp looks like a village right out of the Old West. The sign at the entrance proclaims, "The Fun Starts Here." Opportunities for fun steadily unfold as you follow the tree-lined dirt road that winds beside a pond, across fields, around riding stables, past wigwams and totem poles to reveal a remarkable complex. Camp features an Olympic-size pool; round, Shaker-style dining hall; children's specialty theater; log cabins and wheelchair-accessible treehouse. Here, seriously ill children enjoy boating, fishing, swimming, archery, arts and crafts, woodworking, performing arts, horseback riding, nature, overnight camping and group adventures. Our activities are designed to allow every child to participate and managed to ensure that no child can fail, all under 24-hour medical supervision of the highest quality. In the words of one young camper, "I love it here. Sometimes you think being so sick gives you limits, but the Camp helps you try anything." The summer program serves more than 1,000 extraordinary campers. Programs continue throughout the year serving even more seriously ill children and their families. www.holeinthewallgang.org

"…the children discover their own inherent strengths and self identity…to be creative, artistic, imaginative, theatrical, funny, agile and physical…to be just themselves.."
